  2. Our Themes

In collaboration with its members and partners, the Canadian Commission for UNESCO team identifies and articulates topics of interest in Canada. Our three themes reflect UNESCO's international priorities and shape all of our efforts in Canada and internationally. Each theme includes a series of initiatives to be implemented by CCUNESCO and reflects the action areas of our networks.

Building inclusive communities

Building inclusive communities

By creating and promoting supportive, inclusive and equitable communities, we help build lasting peace in our world. CCUNESCO encourages reflecting and acting on these issues through a variety of initiatives, such as Reconciliation in Action and Women in Science.

Encouraging innovation

By creating societies that are resilient to current global challenges, we help the world to live and develop sustainably. The Canadian Commission for UNESCO's on-the-ground expertise and know-how provide greater insight and encourage action through initiatives such as IdeaLab.

Protecting heritage and the biosphere

Protecting heritage and the biosphere

By safeguarding documentary, cultural, natural and intangible heritage, we respect our environment and preserve the diversity of cultural identities and expressions for future generations. The Canadian Commission for UNESCO contributes to these efforts through a variety of initiatives, such as the Memory of the World Register.
